On days where you’re feeling bitter about your relationship status as well as your GPA, this list of songs might just be the therapeutic cure you’ve been looking for.

1. Justin Bieber, “Lifetime”

Featured on the deluxe version of his recent album Justice, the sappy sentiments paired with Bieber’s harmonies will make you think he’s serenading you, not Hailey. When he sings “every dance is slow, every kiss is woah” just might make your heart swoon.

2. Taylor Swift, “Willow”

In the lead single off of Swift’s latest album evermore, her lyrical prowess takes center stage. We all probably resonate with the chorus line “the more that you say, the less I know.” She describes the song as “casting a spell to make somebody fall in love with you.” Maybe if you listen to the song enough, you might actually be able to!

3. Lorde, “Green Light”

All I have to say is New Girl, season 6 episode 22.

4. Harry Styles, “Sunflower, Vol. 6”

Grammy Award winner Harry Styles gives us a song that embodies what we all feel like when we are infatuated with someone. The notion of planting new seeds in a melody once the flowers have died is the kind of optimism we all need when we’re in our bag. Plus, it’s fun to sing along to the whoop sounds in the outro.

5. The 1975, “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)”

This is a great song to blast if you have a Zoom crush in one of your classes. “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” is both about an online crush and a phenomenal jam to test those new moves out in private. DISCLAIMER: Before you decide to send this to your Zoom crush, you might want to take a look at the lyrics; if someone does receive this song, they see you more as a creep than an admirer.

6. Rook Monroe, “Honey”

This song screams optimism, love, and youth. If there was a perfect song to blast in the car while driving down Lake Shore Drive with the windows down, this would be it. The references to Bon Iver and Led Zeppelin prove that Rook Monroe is not only a talented artist, but also has damn good music taste.

7. Frank Ocean, “Ivy”

Frank Ocean’s discography is divided; there are songs that make you sob alone in your room and those that make you feel blissfully at peace. “Ivy” falls under the latter category. Though the song is about a failed relationship, it looks back on the past romantically. This is my go-to song when I want to stop myself from texting my ex.

8. Fleetwood Mac, “Everywhere”

I’ve never heard a Fleetwood Mac song I didn’t like. “Everywhere” in particular has stuck with me through the years because it immortalizes what falling in love feels like through sound and lyrics.

9. Sleeping At Last, “Turning Page”

This is the song that plays in the background during the wedding scene as Bella walks down the aisle in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. If that doesn’t explain why that song has made it on this list, maybe listening to it will.

10. Ariana Grande, “Obvious”

Ending this list with an upbeat song, this track from her late 2020 record Positions not only confesses feelings, but is also the perfect hit to blast and belt in the shower.
